chivalry.
chivalry: gallantry, gentlemanliness, courtesy, courteousness, politeness, graciousness, mannerliness, good manners.
call me old fashioned but i believe a guy should open the door for a girl. don't get me wrong, i'm not into the whole princessey way of life. i will and can open doors for myself, but a guy who goes out of his way to open a door for me (even when i don't need him to) gets a (mental) thumbs up from me. i'm not saying that i will wait for the guy to open the door, or expect him to open the door all the time. it's just a gesture. "yes babe i know you can open the door yourself, but i prefer to do it"
this works in the favour of guys too. think about it, you get to body check the girl. you open the door, as she walks in, you get to check out her decolletage, as she passes through, you check out her derriere, or even indulge yourself in gawking at your personal fetish-be it ankles, feet, neck etc. and she won't notice cause she's swept off her feet by your gentlemanly gesture!
so, open doors for girls.
and yes guys, sometimes WE WANT TO CARRY OUR OWN STUFF. but don't let it deter you from offering :)
gender equality. where do i stand?
as i previously said, i am quite hypocritical in this matter. i believe in equal rights for both sexes, but love the chivalrous gestures men are brought up to portray.
i refuse to accept that females are brought into this world for the sole purpose of tending the family. hello?! we are multi-talented. yes, we are good nurturers, but we can be wonderful cut throat businesswomen too! think about the powerful women in history and the present-cleopatra, anna wintour, margaret atwood, queen victoria, queen elizabeth the first, mary queen of scotts... the list goes on.
do you think the world would be the same at this very moment if all this women stayed home and looked after their children, waiting for their husbands to come home? NO.
i am not denying that kids need parental presence to grow up sane and whole. but we should be automatically relegated to the role of staying home just because we produce breast milk and are good nurturers. it's OUR CHOICE.
if we so choose, yes we will stay at home. but please for god's sake, don't tell us that our place is in the kitchen, next to the bassinet, in the market.. that's just wrong. we don't tell you that your place is on a ladder, under the car, in the garden, in the farm.. now do we?
give us the same respect you give to yourself.
okay. i'm beginning to sound like a man hating woman. that is not the case. im not some crazy feminist woman. maybe i should continue this again some other day :D
